Campsite Setup

CARMTEK Camper Leveler 2-Pack Kit | Curved RV Levelers with Trailer Wheel Chocks for Dual Axle Trailers:

If your RV doesn’t have auto-leveling then in most cases these levelers are a great way to go without spending time getting leveling blocks to the right height. At every campsite, I check my level using the LevelMate Pro and pull forward onto the ramps until my app shows I’m perfectly level from left to right. It’s that easy!

The LevelMate Pro:

If you own an RV without an automatic leveling system and get in and out of your vehicle a dozen times to get everything level, just stop and smash the buy button for this product. Pull forward on CARMTEK leveling ramps, and stop when your LevelMate Pro phone app shows you are level on the left and right. From there, chock your wheels, disconnect, and finish leveling with the tongue jack or landing gear.

OX BLOX Heavy Duty Trailer Jack Block

Early in our RV days we stacked those plastic blocks under the tongue jack and frankly it didn’t feel sturdy. Now we have the OX BLOX. These are virtually indestructible! I recommend these for tongue jacks, landing gear, and stabilizer jacks. The Ox block has done exceptionally well and while they might be pricey, I wholeheartedly recommend trying these out. There is a possibility these will last longer than most RV’s.

MAXXHAUL 70472 Solid Rubber Heavy Duty Black Wheel Chock 2-Pack

When I first started RV’ing, I purchased cheap plastic chocks that were pretty much useless. Enter the Maxxhaul rubber wheel chock. I can park my travel trailer on a sloped campsite or driveway and they don’t budge. These chocks are heavy rubber so they won’t crush if you forget to remove them.

Security and Convenience

RVLock V4 Key Fob and Keyless Entry Keypad

Today’s standard RV locks provide almost no security because there is such a narrow range of keys manufactured. The RVLock comes with higher security keys, digital keypad, and key fobs! Honestly, I was surprised what a convenience this really is. Going swimming? Leave the keys behind and access your coach with a key code instead. I like how the keypad lights up at night and the feature to mute the beeping sound when you press the buttons. Installation takes less than ten minutes.

GearLight S1050 LED Flashlight High Lumens

I purchase these flashlights for work and my RV. They are sold in packs of two and great for the RV Park, maintenance, dog walking, or wherever you need some extra light. I these flashlights because they are very bright, durable, and inexpensive.

Tools and Maintenance

Telescoping Ladder, SocTone 12.5 FT Aluminum Lightweight Extension Ladder:

Many RV ladders are questionable at best, so I went with a telescoping ladder. I was surprised how durable this ladder really is. It feels safe and stable and still maintains a very light weight. Extending and retracting the ladder is nearly effortless. This model is perfect for travel trailers, but it might be too short for some fifth wheels and Class A’s.

Little Giant Velocity 22 Foot Ladder:

This is the ladder I use for RV inspections and repairs. It is compact in the back of my truck, lightweight, and super easy to use. This ladder adjusts into an extension ladder and A-Frame configuration. I love how easy this ladder is to configure and adjust. The adjustment knob and levers don’t pinch your hands and give a loud click when they lock. I like this ladder so much, my old ladder has been permanently retired.

Dicor 501LSW-1 Self-Leveling Lap Sealant, 4 Pack

Even a small sealant crack or pinhole could allow water intrusion, so I recommend closely inspecting your roof seals at least twice a year, more if you live in southern states. You can add Dicor around roof vents, skylights, fans, antennas, and of course front and rear cap seams. In case of a surprise leak, I recommend carrying one or two tubes of Dicor in your repair parts stash.

iCRIMP Ratchet PEX Cinch Tool with Removing Function

RV’s plumbing often uses PEX which is a type of plastic pipe. PEX uses special fittings and crimp bands to connect one segment of pipe to another. PEX fittings are vulnerable to cracking, so I carry this simple PEX tool kit. I like that the tool both crimps and removes the crimp bands. You also get PEX pipe cutters and a handful of crimp bands. Be sure to purchase PEX fittings to complete your toolkit.

Cooking

Blackstone 1813 Original 22” Tabletop Griddle with Hood and Stainless Steel Front Plate:

Originally, I purchased the single burner 17” Blackstone griddle, but regretted it when a friend introduced me to this dual burner model. The single burner version saves a little space, but it doesn’t heat as quickly and evenly as this model. A major benefit is this model includes a hood which really helps with the cooking process and to protect the griddle from rain. Yes, this is more expensive than the smaller model, but I promise there won’t be buyers remorse with this purchase.

Amazon Basics 18-Piece Kitchen Dinnerware Set, Plates, Dishes, Bowls, Service for 6

There is nothing like a good meal at the campsite but sometimes paper plates just don’t cut it. I stock my kitchen this dinnerware set. There are plenty of colors to choose from and the price is so good that if you somehow break or chip these dishes, they can be replaced. These dishes are microwave safe, but I recommend cooking super hot items liked baked potatoes on a glass surface.

Silverware Set for 8, 40 Piece Heavy Duty Stainless Steel Flatware Utensils

This flatware set is inexpensive, functional, and comfortable to hold in your hand. I recommend picking out a set of steak knives of your choice to compliment this set.

Keurig K-Express Coffee Maker

I’m a coffee purist who grinds my own beans and enjoys perfectly brewed coffee, so I’m surprised at myself for highly recommending this coffee maker. I boondock often and my favorite coffee maker was a huge drain on the batteries when left on for too long. The Keurig K-Express solved that problem. I can brew one cup at a time and frankly, if you choose the right K-Cup brand, the coffee is really good. If power consumption is no concern, then I recommend using your favorite coffee maker and grinder brand.

YETI Rambler 20 oz Stainless Steel Vacuum Insulated Tumbler

By far this is the best travel cup in my collection. The Yeti Rambler will keep your coffee piping hot for over an hour. I really like the magnetic slider on the lid because it makes a great seal and its removable for washing. The cup’s exterior always stays cool and fits in most vehicle cup holders.

Comfort

Oxygenics 92489 Fury RV Handheld Shower:

Forget the junk shower head installed in most RV’s. This product makes it feel like you are getting a high pressure shower. There are multiple spray settings and an on/off switch to save water while you wash. My only gripe is the faux metal hose which is really plastic. It might be worth getting a different hose, but the shower head is amazing!

Dometic 310 Standard Toilet - White, Oblong

Is your current throne uncomfortable or worn out? I am a big fan of the Dometic 310 series because it is porcelain and virtually trouble free. These toilets come with a soft close seat which is a feature I really like. Be sure to purchase the installation hardware kit which is sold separately.

Unique Scrub-It RV Toilet Bowl Cleaner Liquid

Unique products are earning a great reputation. Their Scrub-it toilet bowl cleaner is no different. It uses enzymes to clean and deodorize the bowl and it plays nicely with your tank treatment of choice. If you try this product once, I believe you will buy it again.

Bathroom

Camco Camper / RV Vent Insulator and Skylight Cover

If you are running your air conditioner then you don’t want extra heat entering through the skylights. These inexpensive skylight covers keep an impressive amount of heat out of the RV. An added bonus, these perform equally well keeping the heat inside on cold winter days. These covers do a great job keeping the light out, so if you plan on an afternoon nap, you won’t have the sun shining in your face.

Amazon Basics Ultra-Soft Micromink Sherpa Comforter 3-Piece Bedding Set

When I purchased this comforter, my expectations were low. As it turns out, the Amazon branded comforter is very comfortable, warm, and it looks great! Mine is three years old and still looks fantastic! This product also comes with two pillow shams which match perfectly.

Electrical

Micro-Air Easystart 364, Marine Air Conditioner Soft Start

Whether you use a generator or not, I highly recommend installing an Easystart on each air conditioner. When an air conditioner compressor starts it draws a huge amount of electrical current. The Easy Start uses technology that allows your compressor to gently start with a fraction of the power draw. If you run a generator, this product a necessity to reduce power requirements and avoid overloads. For DIY’ers, I recommend purchasing the version with an install kit. If you are in the Atlanta Metro area, I install Easystart units, so feel free to ask me about installation services.

Klein Tools CL800 Digital Clamp Meter

If you are confident working with electricity, then I recommend the Klein CL800 multimeter. I use this model in my inspection and repair business. This model will enable you to test most RV electrical systems including outlets, generator, inverter, air conditioner capacitors, and appliances. There are less expensive options out there, but if versatility is what you are looking for, I’d smash the buy button on this item.

Klein Tools 1005 Cutting / Crimping Tool

If you plan to replace a vent fan or install a rear view camera, you inevitably need to splice a wire. For this, you will need a crimp tool for crimp style wire nuts, terminal connectors, and butt connectors. These crimpers are far better than other models because they are strong enough to give you a solid mechanical connection with low risk of your wires coming loose.

140 Piece Fuse Kit

RV’s have an abundance of 12-volt automotive fuses. I like this kit because it contains a wide range fuses in a handy storage box. This should be one of your first electrical system accessories on your list. Believe me, when the lights don’t turn on, or the refrigerator stops working, these can be a lifesaver!

TICONN 100PCS Heat Shrink Butt Wire Connector Kit

Heat shrink butt connectors are great when splicing wires together. If you are replacing electric brakes, the connection needs to be waterproof. I like using these inside as well. These are perfect if you are wiring power supplies for lighting, electronics, and other accessories.

Klein Tools 11055 Wire Cutter and Wire Stripper

There are less expensive wire strippers out there, but I find these to be more sharp and durable than a budget brand. I have these in my toolkit and they are fantastic.

Kohree 50 Amp to 30 Amp RV Adapter

If your rig is powered by 30 amp service, then this adapter is a necessity. When a power pedestal 30-amp connection is unavailable or broken, you can use this adapter on the 50 amp circuit. This is another accessory I thought would never be used, but it has saved me many times.

Kohree RV Adapter Plug 30 Amp to 15 Amp 110V, RV Power Adapter

If your rig is powered by 30 amp service, this dogbone will allow you to plug into a standard 15-amp outlet. I use this at home when I’m packing my trailer. It keeps the batteries charged and refrigerator running. If you have an Easy Start or Soft Start, you can run one air conditioner. If you run an air conditioner with this dogbone, purchase a heavy duty extension cord designed for 20 amp service.

Kohree 30 Amp to 50 Amp RV Plug Adapter

If your rig is powered by 50-amp service and your campsite pedestal only offers 30-amps, this dogbone will allow you to connect to a 30-amp pedestal outlet. Keep in mind you won’t have enough power to run all your appliances at the same time, but you will be comfortable nonetheless.

Black and Gray Tanks

Camco Rhino Extreme 20-Foot RV Sewer Hose Kit:

Other hoses look like they are a toxic spill disaster waiting to happen. I like the Rhino Extreme sewer hose kit because of the durable hose material that resists tearing. The connectors seal and hold tight. I like the “L” shaped drain that screws into threaded sanitary pipes at some RV parks. Save yourself a world of…well you know…and get yourself one of these!

Camco Sidewinder 15-Ft RV Sewer Hose Support

Yes, it is true! Poop does not flow uphill, so the Camco Sidewinder is a must have accessory. It creates a sloping cradle for your sewer hose so waste water flows downhill into the campground sewer connection. I can’t overemphasize how useful this product is. I spent several weeks parked on a gently sloped campsite and of course the sewer was on the uphill side. This product eliminated the need to move my camper forward every time I emptied the tanks.

Camco 39736, RhinoFlex Clear RV Sewer Hose Elbow with 4-in-1 Adapter

If your sewer hose kit does not come with a clear elbow then pick up one of these. These thread into the campsite sewer giving you a nice seal to keep odors where they belong. If you are new to RV’ing, I recommend putting something heavy on top of the elbow to keep it in place. You do not want this detaching from the sewer drain while black tank waste is rushing through the hose with considerable pressure.

Camco 39317 3-in-1 Flexible Sewer Hose Seal

Sometimes your campsite sewer drain doesn’t have threads to grab your sewer hose elbow. This hose seal solves that problem. When I purchased this, I figured it would never be used. I was so wrong. This accessory has been used many times and is well worth keeping in your parts stash. As a best practice, I recommend placing something heavy on the sewer elbow. Don’t risk disconnection while dumping your black tank.

Valterra T58 Twist-On Waste Valve, Mess-Free Waste Valve for RV's, Campers, Trailers:

There are those who removed their sewer cap and received a “surprise” and there are those who use this extra waste valve. The idea sells itself, doesn’t it? I’d put this on the must have list!

Camco Rhino 36-Gallon Portable Camper / RV Tote Tank

If you boondock, or stay at parks with remote dump stations, this might become a frequently used accessory. We like the Tote Tank can be connected to a hitch and slowly rolled to the dump station. Also, the dump valve and rinse port are quite effective. I would like to see better wheels on future models, but these work just fine. The downside is you need to mount this to the back of your RV, or take up valuable space in a cargo compartment.

Happy Campers RV Tank Treatment

RV forums have overheated debates and demonstrations about black and gray tank treatments. Save yourself some confusion and go with Happy Campers RV tank treatment. This stuff conquers tank odors! Yes, you still might get a whiff of nastiness when the holding tank is getting full, but otherwise no odors! This product is not perfumed because it doesn’t need to be. It works that well. Be sure to dilute with water before flushing.

Unique RV Digest-It+, Extra-Strength Black Tank Treatment for RVs

It isn’t often I have two products tied for first place, but this is the exception. Digest-It is a little faster breaking down waste than Happy Campers, but it’s odor control does not last as long. I really like this product, but found it was necessary to use two doses of this product between tank dumps. I think the ultimate black tank product would be combining Happy Campers and Digest-It in one bottle.

Fresh Water Accessories

RV Water Pressure Regulator for RV Camper. Brass Lead-free Adjustable RV Water Pressure Regulator with Gauge:

If you ever checked the water pressure at an RV park, it can be very high. I’ve seen campsites with water pressures north of 110 psi! A water regulator reduces water pressure before it reaches your pipes. This reduces the risk of over pressurizing your water system and causing costly leaks. The regulator is adjustable and comes from the factory set at 45 psi. Check your RV owners manual for optimal settings. I tried a less expensive version without the gauge, but there was always a lingering doubt the real water pressure. I’d go with this one.

Zero-G 50' Drinking Water Hose

Forget the old school vinyl hoses that kink and take up so much space. The Zero-G hose is lightweight, won’t kink, and amazingly durable. Once you use this type of hose, you will never go back to anything else.

Camco TastePURE RV Water Filter

Campsite water sources can be questionable at best. The Camco TastePURE is my first line of defense to filter out sediment and undesirable bacteria. I recommend carrying a second filter as a backup.

Culligan ZeroWater 12-Cup Ready-Pour 5-Stage Water Filter Pitcher Dispenser

The ZeroWater pitcher is amazing. In addition to filtering out anything the Camco filter doesn’t catch, this product removes all dissolved solids that make your water cloudy. I stayed at a campsite that has very hard water. ZeroWater comes with a total dissolved solid testing device so I decided to try it out. The water supply measured over 480 ppm. ZeroWater brought this number down to ZERO!
